
Breathing slowly (less than 10 cycles per minute) has long been thought to lower blood pressure. Recently, there have ben 10 peer-reviewed studies that confirm this. Devices are available that provide biofeedback that allow a person to reduce the rate of breathing. This page, while it cannot provide biofeedback, serves as a timer for use in controlling the speed of breathing. It is specifically designed foe 6 cycles per minute. When the colored pie-sections are green, one should inhale. When they are blue, one should exhale. While exhaling, the affirmation which appears below the graphic can be spoken. One word about the affirmation: While this may seem a bit "new-age-ish", I figure that it couldn't hurt.
