Caloric Restriction

Caloric restriction has received a lot of study, nearly 70 years. Many different animal models have been uses, as well as humans. Various diets have been used in these studies, at varying rates of restriction. (ranging from 30% to 50%) This approach is effective with any complete diet--one that provides under-nutrition without malnutrition. Vitamin and mineral supplementation may be necessary to prevent malnutrition. These supplements do not cause life extension. This approach works whenever the total caloric intake is reduced, as long as the calories and essential nutrients supplied are not inadequate. The proportion of fat, carbohydrate, and protein doesn't seem to matter. The amino acid profile of the protein also does not seem to matter. The feeding regimen does not seem to affect the results, either.
